LINCOLNSHIRE'S LANCASTER ASSOCIATION

The Lincolnshire's Lancaster Association is a Registered Charity, supporting the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight. It was formed from the Lincolnshire Lancaster Committee; a small group of people who came together when the Lancaster was moved from RAF Waddington to RAF Coltishall in 1973. The Committee's original aims were to ensure that the Bomber would return to Lincolnshire and that the Lancaster would remain in the county as a memorial to the thousands of aircrew who lost their lives whilst based here during WWII.

Following a request from the RAF to help produce the hardware that made the fitting of the mid-upper turret to the Lancaster possible, it was decided to change the name of the Committee and to invite public membership. Registered Charity status was achieved and today the Association with over 5000 members world wide continues to give invaluable support to the Flight.

Stuart Stephenson, the Chairman of LLA was awarded the MBE in 2008 Many 'behind the scenes' projects have been funded over the years by the Association, at the request of BBMF, when the MOD was unable to do so. The manufacture of dummy cannons for Hurricane PZ865 was a visible contribution but others, such as the ammunition tracking complete with hundreds of rounds of dummy ammunition and a 2-year project to transfer the Flight's Technical manuals onto CD-ROM are less apparent. Since 2001 the Association has been involved in the return to flying condition of Spitfire TE311 which has become the most expensive project to date. The generous support provided by the Association to BBMF is enormously appreciated by the current members of the Flight and ties between the Flight and the Association have never been stronger. This support can be financed only by the generosity of the Association's members, by bequests, donations and money raised by the Association from the sale of BBMF souvenirs.

Association members receive two in–house journals per year, plus the annual BBMF display program and the BBMF brochure; they are also invited to attend the annual and exclusive Association's Member's Open Day to see the Flight at work. Enrolment and first years membership fee is £8.00 (£15 for overseas members, postings by airmail). If you would like to give the Flight your support and become a member of the Association you can find a membership application form that can be printed off on our website by clicking here or send a SAE for a membership application form to:
